REFLECT

A bit of chastisement from me this morning. I spoke with one pastor and three catechists over the weekend. Every one of them told me that they had no idea about the nine scheduled catechists meetings in the diocese. Maybe it’s because nobody at the parish is paying attention to this email, the bishop’s mailings, or any other communication – or maybe the parish’s catechist list is not updated in LEAD – or the catechists (all three) and the pastor is not receiving or reading emails – or maybe a combination of all of those things.

In any event, Bishop Caggiano invited all catechists to attend a meeting to discuss formation and the renewal he wants to see in faith formation. Catechists are much more than babysitters, and I know you know that. But failing to keep records up to date, not bothering to read emails, and not passing on invitations from the bishop is just irresponsible, so let’s get it together.

Inform your catechists, meet with them, and for heaven sakes, make sure you invite them to things the chief catechist of the diocese wants them to attend.

Use this memo to invite, update your catechists in LEAD, and follow up as necessary. Today.

End of rant.
